CFor daytime street food, the area by the gate of the mostly mothballed old Navy station is hard to beat.by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
A lot of work done on this jewel. The barrel vaulted ceilings are great.by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
just strollin' along...the three apartment/condo locales are between downtown and Playa Panteon; should be a spectaular view.by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
right by the pier is another grouping of eateries and rooms to rent. Note that our old friend Mono has opened up a place for antojitos. The creperia is now glazed beneath the cortinasa and features an indoor dining area.by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
I have been properly chided for posting most of my shots to Facebook rather than Tomzap. Properly, because it's true, and true because the Facebook interface is so damned easy. But here's some shots, showing the new paint and ironwork on the Hotel Soraya - Hortensia is most asuredly back - as well as the Agencia Puerto Angel (post office, government offices, taxes, etc.) and the Capitanby por johnzap - Puerto Angel
Gosh, PB, mi novia has a Loncheria here and it's been needing some serious attention since a storm a year or so ago wrecked the water system. We're slowly getting it back to at least 2nd world standards, and building me a nice offset smoker. I've found a brisket supply, and would love to help her get it into a nice two-day-a-week-until-the-meat-is-sold type of Texas style BBQ takeoby por johnzap - Puerto Angel
The main road remains unpaved, but has reopened. For now.by por johnzap - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla
Spent the last couple of hous listening to the "...scrape, whoosh" of dirt being shoveled; the barrier is down and, at least temporarily, you can use Hwy 175 all the way through Puerto Angel on your way to Zipolite and beyond. Of course, it's still unpaved, but the detour on narrow, tope-rich back streets can be averted. For now.by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
yeah, at the point where the road is blocked, you will have to turn right. The first left would bring you back to the beach at the Hotel Soraya entrance. HOWEVER, there is tope construction blocking half that road most of the way down the hill. The 2nd left, by the old Sedemar BX/supermarket, takes you back to the main road, just past the mercado and at the entrance to the (mostly closed) naval bby por johnzap - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla
La Tijera is 10 km down a dirt road starting just past the old military base by El Cruce on Hwy 200. It'd be a rough walk; I can usually be talked into a trip there in the pick-up, though. There's not a lot of sand, but what there is is snow white. Most of the beach is round stones. There is a big monolithic rock just beyond the beach, then two rows of rocks going out to sea, like the bby por johnzap - Puerto Angel
Most days, the construction noise is no more than shovels, picks, and the occasional dump truck. The little gasoline concrete mixer isn't too loud; even the roller isn't too bad. But when they bring in the jackhammer to break the concrete for another concrete utility box, either the 4x4x4 or 4x6x8, it's time to go visit Playa Tijera or someplace! So far, Playa Panteon remains untouby por johnzap - Puerto Angel
With the main road closed for the last long block before the muelle in Puerto Angel, those using public transportation might get a tad confused. For those here for only a short time, taxis will seem cheap when you arrive from the dollar economy. It's only later in your stay, when you start trying to figure out how to get in another month or so in Paradise, that you'll start scrimping onby por johnzap - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla

Buck a beer while you wait. Cold longnecks of Corona and Indio run 13 pesos, and can break the monotony of the wait for the next Collectivo or Camioneta.by por johnzap - Puerto Angel

Perhaps "Off Topic" is an area interested folks should check for new messages. Sort of like the "Main Page" or maybe even looking in the "Main Index" when researching for basic information. Just sayin...by por johnzap - Off-Topic Forum
If you're here already, you're no doubt aware that the transfer point in Puerto Angel for camionetas and taxis has been relocated by infrastructure construction a block up the road, to right in front of Tio Chilo's. By happy coincidence, sufficient storm recovery has allowed Tio Chilo to resume food service. So instead of just grabbing a beer or soft drink, you can grab a sandwichby por johnzap - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla

from right outside my doorway to the street below the entrance to Hotel Soraya, the street level has been dropped a couple of feet and the dust is thick. This is a good two block stretch including the 90 degree bend by the muelle. I am told it will be built back with pavers like the current main street in Roca Blanca. Makes it hard to get to the Agencia Municipal and the Yamaha dealer...by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
OK, here is the rationale of the storekeeper: The bottles were not back the next day when the vendor brought more beer. The storekeeper had to pay more deposit to re-stock. His move was not reasonable and not beneficial in the long run, but he may well have been "short" when the vendor came and he was taking it out on you. Sparks, is this the point where I mention that I'll be transitioning to live in the Puerto Angel area (PA; Arroyo Cruz; Zip) this fall? I can assure you and Tom and Nancy that I will endeavor to keep everything from the chacales in San Antonio (the one by La Ventanilla) to the cafes in Barra de La Cruz as up to date as I can; I still don't see myself spending a whole lot of time in Puerby por johnzap - Off-Topic Forum
Sparks, think about this for a minute. You are coming on rather aggressively towards a moderator who does this out of respect for the people who post and visit the website and who has a real job, too. Lucrative, this site is not. So if you're feeling ignored, you are, and rightfully so. It's a private service; Tom and Nancy pay the bills to keep it up and running, and it is THEIR choiceby por johnzap - Off-Topic Forum
