There are a couple of ex-pats, one gringa and one German that I know of, who try to take care of the animal's health. Most Zipolite dogs are very mellow and the exceptions usually get "culled", one way or another. The flea and tick problem is outrageous, though. Wow. Grab the bus at the highway to Pochutla. Grab the Mazunte caqmion and hop off at the Roca blanca turn-off; sooner if you want to stay in Zipolite Viejo. Eric, read about water empires, empires where the central control of basic needs is exercised. Tenochtitlan and the Mexica people are often used as examples. Water empires never fall from internal pressure, but are quite vulnerable to a shift in cultural paradigms. Excuse me, but since when is getting your health care from the Emergency Room cheaper than preventive heath care? And the ER is where the uninsured go. There is enough humanitarianism left that ER's can't just "let 'em die." Juries don't like that. And you don't think current insurance rates are driven up by unpaid ER bills? If you think that the insurance companies are benevolent, then you are a bigger fool that anyone would have believed. the insurance companies have always had their "death panels' , deciding who gets treatment, to what arbitrary lifetime maximum, and whether a pre-existing condition disqualifies you. Fred, the no-bid contracts given by Rick Perry to his campaign contributors proved once and for all that the private sector is NOT more efficient than the public, just another lie to direct money to favored recipients. When he hired some buds to re-do the public assistance rolls, once they'd used up the contract money, he had to bring the state workers back in to finish the project. And I'd say you were sticking way too close to conventional. Grab a bus from ACA to Huatulco. Hire a cab - cheap - for a run to Barra de la Cruz for great surfing in a much earthier location than Puerto Escondido. The folks from La Crema Bar in Huatulco have a new place to rent rooms there; it's a tiny community with spectacular surfing. Back in March, the low spot by the old naval base was under reconstruction, which required a bit of a detour. Mazunte had an even bigger rebuild going on. Can't seem to get down more than once a year 'til that retirement train hits, so I couldn't tell you about current conditions. I do know that if a fire or storm hits Zipolite, most things are back up inside a month. Horrible repeby por johnzap - Puerto Angel

Tirado, the rules remain: Take half the clothes and twice the money you think you'll need. You will not recognize it after 27 years. The Italian invasion has continued, and I do believe that the best italian food I've ever eated is at Zip. Don Franco does it really well. OK, in Roca Blanca the main street is now paved from the disco west. Follow the paved street until the pavement ends. There are a couple of small huts in the left in front of a larger posada. Talk to them right and you're looking at a thousand pesos a month. Bathroom/showers are shared. Mosquito net over bed. Or, east of the pavement, there's the venerable Piedra del Fuego. I would second the recommendation that you solicit contributions on Zipolite from Tina Winterlink. Few know it and love it more than she. One angle you might approach is the Italian connection. Mazunte has long had an Italian component. Many of the restaurants in the Roca Blanca portion of Zipolite are Italian owned and operated.
