Playa Panteon didn't suffer near so much as you might have hearsd, sola; I'll try to post post more shots tomorrow if I can coax the right camera to work. There's still plenty of sand on the beach; the main problem is too much sand under the palapas!by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
Well, sola, there's really not a lot of beach in Mazunte, but it'll come back as always (Ojala!) Zipolite's still in pretty good shape; hacen't gotten back to La Tijera or Tembo, yet. Fishing has returned in ernest since the second round. I'm going to look for aome alleged lost pangas next week. It may be time for the trash can & plastic bag lift salvage! Great for accounts in Loonies, Chloe! For my US dollars, 17.40 at the Caja Popular is the best I've been able to do...by por johnzap - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla
Got home Monday after the waves struck, only to find the streets jammed with boats taken out of the water and sand in all beachfront establishments, with the palapas on Playa Panteon filled with a two meter+ load. Everyone is hoping for a little cosmic mercy when the next one hits on the 14th...by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
Will be driving back to Puerto Angel from the Austin area the weekend of May 1. There will be no hurry and the route will be, uh, intuitional and entertaining? The ideal passenger will be able to drive a standard transmission and maybe help a tad on gas and tolls, but all is negotiable, including the route. PM me.,by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
Until I can change migrante status, I've gotta hit la frontera every 180 days. Since I also have need of periodic medical visits, I headed back to Texas for this set of papers revisions. Left Pto Angel Thursday at 10:30. Despite a detour to Pluma Hidalgo to service the coffee adictions of a few Austin frientoped for the night in Acotzingo, just short of Puebla. 270MP first day tolls. Day twby por johnzap - Puerto Angel
So if the guy who was cadging beer from you last week has bleeding nostrils and a bottle of Remy Martin in his hand this week, it's probably not because he had a great week catching yellow fin tuna...by por johnzap - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla
You'll be welcome, Sol. I'll even give y'all a ride to a deserted beach!by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
Sola, like a nasty fungus, Pochutla just keeps growing on you. Decades ago, it was the Zona de Tolerencias that kept folks coming back. But if you need building supplies and the like, Ferroteria Roga remains the most likely spot to find whatever you lack. Then another of the inovations of Gener's term as Presidente Municipal, the gorgeous new plaza between the mercado and the church, shows hby por johnzap - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla
The road looks good, Sola. The gap leading to Bungalos Monte Christo has been filled with fresh 'crete. The new food casetas between there and the Capatania have yet to be occupied. The gazebo looks finished, but has yet to host its first band; I am hopeful that Ticolichs will take care of that, soon. C'mon down and enjoy the changes!by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
Time to renew papers, so it's back to Austin next week. If you can drive a manual transmission (5 speed Nissan), and you need a ride to La Frontera, send me a PM. Some help with gasoline would be appreciated.by por johnzap - Off-Topic Forum
OK, the roadblocks are down; paving finished for now.by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
OK, another ATM sighted in Marco's Hotel Playa Zipolite, on Avenida Roca Blanca, and yet another in San Augustinilla. As Pochutla grows ever more interesting, the necessity for going there lessens.by por johnzap - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla
The community mourns the loss of two fishermen four days ago in the rough seas produced by the current rebalse event. Th.e fishermen departed from Ixtaccahuite and haven't been seen since. We can hope for a miracle but prepare for the worstby por johnzap - Puerto Angel
Your name implies European make. But Italians say you're a Chinese fake. Your tiny moter will put four up or three But you'll never be in Moto GP. Your motor will last three or four, then it's time to rebuild once more... A lot of folk spend a few months down here every year, the head back north to earn enough to do it all again next year. A new player has entered the competition for your pro and recreational fishing equipment dollar. Joining the Yamaha dealership and Ric's Refraciones Zorro Plateado is the new Alpha outlet, expanding over from Puerto Escondido. They have opened a nice, complete shop in the business center between the muelle and Callejon El Mono.by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
A near-shore swimmer found the swirling currents of the recent rebalse more than he could handle. The local salvavidas maintained CPR from recovery to ambulance arrival, but to no avail. Victim is reported to have been drinking (what a surprise!). Another tragedy in Paradise.by por johnzap - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla
There is currently a working ATM in Mazunte. It is not attached to a bank, of which there are NONE below Pochutla on 175. If you do go into Pochutla, the lowest ATM fee I have found is at the Caja Popular de Oaxaca on your left going into town, at 17.5p. The next lowest I have found is two doors down at the Elektra, believe it or not. 20p. For comparison, Scotiabank is 29p and Bancomer (and the Mby por johnzap - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla

The road is actually fake "pavers". They pour 'crete; use a pattern sheet to make it look like pavers; then come back with a saw to cut it every couple of meters...by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
Mail time from Texas to Pto Angel has ranged from three weeks to three months so far.by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
I'll let you know when I figure it out. I've heard several stories, and that's just from the guys working there.by por johnzap - Puerto Angel

As promised, here's a few shots of the current construction progressby por johnzap - Puerto Angel
About 30 mtrs on one side; almost all the way to the Agencia Municipal on the other. Rightr now, the pavers are red as is the top of the ceter concrete strip. I'll post some pics tomorrow if I can figure which camera lets me attach here...by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
Oh, please do! I just wish El Tri or Jaguares or Mana' would stop by sometime!by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
Coffee's great. Roast can be sublime. The grind tends to be too fine; sure wish I'd brought a grinder. And a pastry knife. And a steamer basket. And a case of Zataraine's Louisiana crab boil...by por johnzap - Puerto Angel
You know, I really haven't gotten all the dynamics figured out. I know that Marco, who owns the Hotel Playa Zipolite in the Roca Blanca area, is involved; I know Gener is in his second term as Presidente Municipal; and I know they bring back some really big fish. But sadly, my comprehension and hearing are neither one perfect; and I know that some questions are both hard to ask and to answerby por johnzap - Puerto Angel
