I know nothing about flights from Canada to Oaxaca but do know the highway to the coast well. Allow at least 6 hours to drive from Oaxaca to the coast. The highway through the mountains is very curvy so you'll want to take something for your motion sickness. It's a beautiful ride.by Frijole Contador - City of Oaxaca

Zipolite! The Italian deli has some decent wine and cheeses. With all the inexpensive, good restaurants there's no need to buy a lot of groceries. Las Mangoes has rentals, a pool, and is very secure.by Frijole Contador - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla

A revision to my last post. On the way back to the coast via 175 today we ran into two bloqueós. The were both north of Miahuatlan and one had a long detour. It added about an hour to the trip but was quite interesting!by Frijole Contador - City of Oaxaca

Oaxaca City is very safe. We spend a lot of time there and have never had any problems. Like any place crimes do occur there but I feel perfectly safe walking around alone. According to the U.S. State Department the Fortin Hill area should be avoided but again, we've walked there many times with no problems. Taxi's are plentiful and cheap. I am and we buy our mattresses and appliances from Casa Bonita. As you said they are great. We've rented a house in Oaxaca City and we're shopping for a queen-size bed and mattress but decided to use one of those kits to make two twins into a king.by Frijole Contador - City of Oaxaca

There are several ATMs in HUX. There is at least one Santander and a couple of Banamex. There may be others but I prefer Santander because it usually gives some smaller bills. When will you be coming? Parking may be tight on the main street going through town and on the street going down to the rinconcita from now until about mid January but after that you should be okay. Tornado - 9 years ago
Late this morning a small tornado hit the west end of Mazunte. It came in from the ocean. We were in Pochutla at the time but were told there was first a small spout then 15 minutes later a tornado. As far as I know there were no injuries but we did see some damage. We just returned from Oaxaca City and there is a road block south of San Jose. They aren't letting anyone through however there is a lengthy way around on a rough mountain track. We thought our car wouldn't make it but we did.by Frijole Contador - San José del Pacifico
