Peet, I'm in tthe midst of relocating the pit since customers have been nonexistent. I'll let you know when it's ready, and will do a 15 hour brisket smoke to celebrate.by johnzap - Puerto Angel
The airport ATMs serve a captive audience. Once you{re in Pto Angel, Huatulco, or Pto Escondido, seek out the most convenient Caja Popular. They have the lowest fee, have never given me problems, and show the remaining balance in my Credit Union al otro lado.by johnzap - Puerto Angel
This is the coffee served at Lunchaia Tio Chilo. We are expecting a new shipment today or tomorrowñ awaiting a call from Dona Imelda to meet up. We serve the normal dark roast, but will be getting a couple of kgs of lighter roast this time around as well. Tom and Nancy have expressed a defini. te preference for the lighter roast, so we{ll try to keep some of each around.Tio Chilo. Ribs and pulledby johnzap - Puerto Angel
The sort of isolated beaches I love to snorkel are a bit more accessable from Pto Angel. And in Colorado, on the way to Pochutla, there is a good restaurant for carnivores called "Finca de los Vaqueros". But Pto Angel does suck as far as restaurants, Zipolite is better in that regard.by johnzap - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla
Hortensia has a nice apartment in the Hotel Soraya complex. Kitchen has a large stove but a tiny fridge. Bedroom overlooks the pier and the bay. 2500 pesos per month.Wifi, but no pool. No A/C, but plenty of fans.by johnzap - Puerto Angel
Best Meat: Carneceris Papaloapan in Huatulco delivers to Puerto Angel on Thursdays. This is where I get my "special order" steaks. Remember to specify "doble taman~o". Locally, the carniceria next to the market in Puerto Angel does decent "filete de lomo de rez" which is sliced to make filets. The bacon wrapping is from Siete Regiones. Their hamburger is good, as welby johnzap - Puerto Angel
I hesitate to be overly self-serving, but if I am, Nancy will let me know and I'll move the post! First, a disclaimer. We are doing major renovations at Tio Chilo, but until they are completed, only the dog-friendly need plan to dine in-house. We are also the House of the Fat Dogs, so if you object to several dogs with pleading, longing eyes gathered at the foot of your table, you shouldby johnzap - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla
Another typical day para Barbacoa Estilo Tejas de Tio Jhoin. Had a special order for three slow-smoked chickens with baked potatoes and sopa frio - and the customer failed to show up. Anyone want a special deal on slow-smoked chickens?by johnzap - Puerto Angel

Siete Regiones is the closest thing to a supermarket since the Sedemar closed when the naval base downsized to nearly nothing. It's owned by the same family that has the Siete Regiones in Pochutla and the Siete Regiones resort near Colorado. The selection is fairly good; they accept credit cards. As for tacos, the choice is there, but I like to patronize Coral in Playa Panteon. Siete Regiby johnzap - Puerto Angel
The legislative act passed the first of four readings last week.by johnzap - Off-Topic Forum
A nice young ex-pat requested some TSP for a painting job just before my last trip north. Unfortunately, my life-long problem with name retention has struck again, though I do know he is friends with Derrik, the demon guitarist of Zipolite. I got him a 4.5 lb box at Home Depot and it is waiting for him at Tio Chilo. If you know him, or ARE him, please let him know.by johnzap - Puerto Angel
The area from Sal y Pimiento to Cafe Maya suffered some wave problems more recently than the May storms; Ray's trying to put together some financing to fix Cafe Maya and could use ome crowdsourcing help. Roca Blanca is in great shape, though we are still in hurricane season; have had a dry and inactive season so far; but December is far enough away that I wouldn't fret, were I you.by johnzap - Zipolite - Mazunte - Agustinillo - Ventanilla

Rule of thumb is that ATMs use the Interbank rate at the close of business of the day your funds are converted, minus a conversion fee as determined by the bank in question. Google Interbank exchange rate.by johnzap - Off-Topic Forum
Our coffee guy from Xanika hadn't been by in a while, and we were fresh out of beans. Bought the cafe molida from Siete Regiones; from Yaniz; from Don Pedro; then back to Siete Regiones for a bag of beens marked "medio", but I've had less burnt French Roast. So if the mountain won't come to Mohamed, Mo must go up the mountain! Pluma Hidalgo just doesn't cut it for thby johnzap - Puerto Angel
Just around the corner from Siete Regiones on the blind hill? Sure! if the view is essential, go further up the highway past the Panteon cut-off and check out "A Nice View"by johnzap - Puerto Angel
Business reasons force a morning trip to Santa Maria Saturday; ribs won't be coming off till after 6. Smoked Boston Butt is still scheduled for four-ish, Sunday.by johnzap - Puerto Angel
My votes for Obama are a source of pride. Do you think McCain or Romney would have been, in any way, an improvement over the last six-and a half years? Think of the Supreme Court. Think of equal rights. Think of W Bush's Wars of Choice and destruction of the US economy through deregulation and tax cuts for billionaires. In other words, THINK!by johnzap - Off-Topic Forum

Pork ribs are in the smoke; chicken follows soon; sausage in a few hours. Ribs should be coming off between 3 and 4.by johnzap - Puerto Angel
I've GOTTA stop leaving this 'puter upstairs when I cook! I am sorry I didn't see this in time to report, but if you're coming through town this week, I've got pulled pork held back for tortas. There's fresh ribs for another hour or so...by johnzap - Puerto Angel
Today, Friday, there will be chickens coming off the smoker about 5:00, along with chistorro (sausage). SaturdaY will find chickens and pork ribs. Sunday, the piece de risistance, pulled pork as well as more chickens. Both sweet and hot sauces are available. You can buy a plate; all or part of a bird; and tortas. Tortas will also be available during the week. Look forward to seeing you.by johnzap - Puerto Angel
That;s only 11.6 pesos more than the Caja Popular next to thr Elektra, but 10 pesos less than Bancomer... Noticed today that the sliding peso value has caused about a 40% increase in the price of many items at Bodega Aurrera. As Porfirio Diaz once said, "Pity poor Mexico. So far from God but so close to the United States".by johnzap - Puerto Angel
Because we haven't been advertising yet? This weekend, we are taking a little break as the very wet conditions are making it hard to keep the wood burning - and the pitmaster has a touch of "la grippa" from chopping wood in the rain. We'll re-vamp ads and be at it again next week!by johnzap - Puerto Angel
Just picked up the most gorgeous 4kg slab of meaty pork ribs from Carne Popalapan in Huatulco; I'll toss 'em on the smoker about noon Saturday; wrap 'em between 1:30 and 2:00; should pull 'em off by 6:00. Anybody want dibs on some? There'll be plenty of chickens available, too...by johnzap - Puerto Angel
As you come into Puerto Angel, Tio Chilo's is on your left, at the last intersection before Hiway 175 makes a 90 degree turn to the right to track through town and on to Zipolite. The pulled pork should be coming off the pit between five and six. Thanks for asking. Oh, this is Frijole Contador. You'll be coming from Mazunte. That delicious oder of burning wood and meat juices you smell on entering Puerto Angel is coming from the Kingsford smoker sitting on the sidewalk in front of Tio Chilo's. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, you'll find smoked chicken (that's "ahumado", NOT al carbone nor rotisado). Sunday will feature Texas-style pulled pork. As demand and customer flow allow, brisket will be addeby johnzap - Puerto Angel

Just hit 6 ATMs in Pochutla; two are out of service; three said to try again later; one said to contact my financial institution. My credit union reports that no attempts have been made to access my account from any ATM since May 3. So the lines must be down or something. Hard to know when to drive in and try again since my low fuel light kicked on a couple of nights ago. The joys of living in Meby johnzap - Puerto Angel
