There was an overcast so the flight had to be IFR. Cloud bases were at 1900' and the tops were at 3200' at Georgetown. Temperature was a pleasant 70°F. Corpus Christi was also overcast.

I filed direct to San Antonio then V163 to Corpus Christi. My clearance was 169° radial to Centex VOR then 355° radial to Corpus Christi. After takeoff I got a different route which was direct to PALMS intersection then direct to Corpus Christi. This cut across some military practice areas and was a much more direct route than the Victor airways would allow. What was an overcast day below turned sunny once above the cloud deck. We flew at 5000' and as the cloud deck sloped upward slightly along the route; the clouds seemed to race past more quickly as we approached our destination. Once we reached Corpus it was back into the clouds for an instrument approach. On the ground we refueled at Atlantic Aviation. The fuel came to $112.32.
