| The Basilica de la Soledad is a large church located on Av. Independencia, 1 block north and 5 blocks west of the NW corner of the zócalo. It was built in 1692 in the baroque style, the holy site of the Soledad virgin, patron saint of Oaxacans. In front of la Soledad is Jardín Sócrates (barely visible under the trees in the photo at left) where there are several stands selling Oaxacan ice cream. In the right foreground is Plaza de la Danza. And somewhere on those hills in the background is the archaeological site Monte Albán. | |
