I spent yesterday with some friends who are farmers near Cuahtemoc which is about 10 miles towards the volcano from Colima. Juan said there are none of those trees around here. The closest I have seen peaches is on the road up Volcan de Fuego from Cd. Guzman, and both the trees and the fruit were pretty scrawny. They did tell me that there are lots of them (apples, pears, etc) around Mazamitlby iamx - Colima - Comala
I asked the lady who spent all day selling raffle tickets if she was going to post the results on TOMZAP and she said that she was. I guess she's been busy.by iamx - La Manzanilla - Tenacatita - Boca de Iguanas
Thanks! I figured someone had to know about this. We'll plan to be there.by iamx - La Manzanilla - Tenacatita - Boca de Iguanas
Comala Host- Has this place opened? "Hello just to informe that we will have a new dinner option in town with spanish wine. We will post more information soon. It will open Nov 30th." If so, where is it? Have you tried it? Thanks!by iamx - Colima - Comala
There are a few small restaurants that have opened in downtown Comala and we tried one tonight. It’s the Harumi Japanese place on 5 De Mayo #15, Centro. It’s tiny but pleasant and the food was excellent. We got tepanyakis and yakimechis, both reasonably priced. They also have a large selection of sushi but we have found that most local sushi includes Philadelphia cheese and lacks wasabi and gby iamx - Colima - Comala
We were in La Man. last January towards the end of the month and they had a big art festival which included local and other Mexican artists, and open houses of local artists. We were under the impression that this was an annual event. Does anyone know if 1) it is planned for this year and 2) if so, when? Thanks!by iamx - La Manzanilla - Tenacatita - Boca de Iguanas
I'm not on Facebook but my wife is. Big cavalgada (sp?) (horse etc. parade) to day at noon, traditional dancers tonight in the centro tonight at 8:30. Sorry I didn't get this out earlier...by iamx - Colima - Comala
Evidently, Comala is better at promoting itself than I knew. The info is at Fiestas Charro Taurinas Comala which you can get to from Google. It opens a facebook page, which I am not on so that may be a problem for you, or maybe you can find another link. I think there may be a big parade with hundreds of great horses tomorrow, but I'm not sure. But there are things going on through the eby iamx - Colima - Comala
I don't know about Colima, but the festivities in Comala are going full blast. That said, Comala, Mexico's numero uno magic town, doesn't do a very good job of promoting itself on the internet - I couldn't find anything about what's going on here. There is a brochure floating around detailing each day's activities. If I can get one, I will post the highlights.by iamx - Colima - Comala
Is it the last weekend in January again? We would like to bring a friend. Thanks!by iamx - La Manzanilla - Tenacatita - Boca de Iguanas
I heard second hand that Restaurante Gourmet in Comala has closed. I can't say I'm surprised since business was usually slow in the high season and presumably worse in the summer. The owner was a wonderful guy with a great product so I'm sorry to see him go. There is a rumor that he may reopen in Colima - I hope he does. This gives Restaurant Antigua an opportunity to captureby iamx - Colima - Comala
I guess the pronouns were a bit confusing, but I knew what I meant... The upscale market was back here in the U.S. Hope you guys are doing well and we'll be seeing you in a month or so!by iamx - Colima - Comala
Does anyone know whether either of these is available anywhere near here? We have space for a couple of more small trees we would like to plant when we get back: -Mandarinquat: I ran into these during a rare visit to this upscale food shop here. In case you haven't guessed, it's a hybrid between a mandarina and a kumquat. Delicious! It's like a kumquat but is sweet on the insby iamx - Colima - Comala
Comala Host will probably respond re. the volcano tour question. Re. the zip line, I sent a response to the Barra forum, but I don't know if the one I know about is three kilometers long. It was complete last winter when we were there but the place doesn't have much business. You might go past it on the way to the volcano.by iamx - Colima - Comala
Leslie I'm sorry to say that we are not yet back to Comala. If you want to check out the place (called Oikos), start at the square in Comala. Start at Degollado, the street on the opposite side of the botanas - it's the side with a couple of gift shops and two ice cream places. Go past the church and school and continue down the hill. Cross the bridge and go up the hill. You willby iamx - Colima - Comala
This is not the place you are hoping for but it might work in a pinch. It's in Comala (not Colima, where I understand, there are is little or no remaining colonial architecture due to earthquakes) but it's a neat place that could work in a pinch. This is adapted from a post I made on another forum: We have Mexican friends in Colima (long story) and while there last summer, wby iamx - Colima - Comala
A friend who is a birder and a website designer spent a wonderful month at Hostal Casa Blanca in Comala and created a website on birding in the Comala region. The site has detailed information on half day and longer trips from Comala including La Maria, Nogueras, Volcan de Nieve and many other birding hotspots, and some of the birds you may find there. Included is a photo gallery (more photos beiby iamx - La Manzanilla - Tenacatita - Boca de Iguanas

We just walked through Coppel which has home furnishings. It's next to Soriana in Villa de Alvarez. It may require a membership a la Sam's Club but I don't knowby iamx - Colima - Comala
AdoBe Pizza. The Best Pizza in the World So Far has a second location in Colima. It is on Ignacio Sandoval 1652 (Leon Felipe), Colima. I haven't been there yet but my wife has and says that is twice the size and the same wonderful ambiance as the one in Comala, and has the same excellent pizza. Since we're driving down via N. Laredo, the lady at the consulate thought we could get our INAMI Visa there although she didn't claim to be an authority about the Mexican side of the process. I'll let you know when they start the clock on it. Do you happen to know how many photos I need? One site said three face on and two profile shots which seemed a little much.by iamx - Colima - Comala
In case anyone is interested, we applied for our Mexican residency Visa (formerly FM3) last week. If you've ever looked on line for what you need, you've probably seen a different list from each authoritative website, including such stuff as three months of rental or utility receipts for your residence in Mexico, statement of good health from a doctor, statement of sterling character fby iamx - Colima - Comala
I enjoyed the slide show of the "Rangel" art and artistry. We have been coming to Colima for almost 20 years and always wondered about Comala's "painted furniture" mentioned in guide books. Especially on the east side of Mexico, when a town has a cottage industry, pretty much every houshold is involved in some way, from making it to selling it, often in competition withby iamx - Colima - Comala
Barring catastrophy, I can't imagine them going back north. I know Rosa would be happy to never leave Mexico again, a sentiment we came to appreciate after returning to Iowa in late March and a mistake we won't make again. They're probably spending time with Miguel's family near Tecoman.by iamx - Colima - Comala
I found a few things I forgot to list and I see that the Magpie-Jay is one of them - we saw them on the square in Nogueras This is one of those "wow" species like Motmots and Squirrel Cuckoos. Another one I forgot to list was Ruddy Ground-Dove. Thanks for the comment.by iamx - Colima - Comala
Since I didn't know about this forum while we were in Comala this winter, I didn't pay a lot of attention to the names of restaurants we visited and don't know the name of this one. If you're coming into Comala from Villa, go right at the Pemex - the road to Nogueras. About half way up the long block on the left is a restaurant whose exterior features a flapping plastic signby iamx - Colima - Comala
It's been a little slow here, and I'm pretty sure this won't help much, but here's a list of the birds I saw during our stay in Comala this winter. All were seen (as compared to heard only), and all were in easy walking distance of Comala and Nogueras and the roads in between. We are, by any definition, budget travelers and budget diners, although we do splurge from time to time. Our Big Splurge during last winter in Comala was lunch at Hacienda San Antonio with two other couples. Here's what I sent to some family and friends about it: We arrived at the entrance gate at the appointed time. The guard there took our reservation letter, called in to confby iamx - Colima - Comala
