This is an interesting area that is a bit deeper than purely of academic value. Korea is by far the largest "Co-ordinator" of electrical and electronics goods that are made in China and imported just about everywhere including Mexico. If a free-trade agreement is reached and if "free market competition" reigns her in Mexico, this may means a significant drop in the price of everything from electronics to refrigerators to air conditioners. A lot of ifs, but nice to ponder on such a cloudy day...
Rentmex, "Free trade" is a Gee Oh Pee euphemism for exploiting cheap foriegn labor, remember what Ross Perot said in the 1992 election campaign... "That giant sucking sound you hear is the jobs going to Mexico"....correction...it was the jobs outsourcing to China. Meanwhile, back at the ranch..Walmart becomes the worlds largest retailer, and the world's largest importer of goods manufactured in China .. ,,,like, 12 year old kids buying sneakers made in China, by 12 year old chinese kids. Yep, the price of washing machines is reduced 30 per cent, and the price of labor in the U.S., and Mexico, is reduced 30 per cent. And, wing nuts like Glenn Beck denounce unions and organized labor like they are public enemy no. 1., Walmart must love Glenn Beck.!!!
It's been interesting over the years since NAFTA was passed. I have never met a Mexican that wasn't sure that Mexico was shafted with the agreement. Likewise, every Canadian knows that Canada was completely screwed over by the deal. Most Americans are sure that it was the worst thing ever entered into by the US. Did everyone lose? Somebody 'splain to me why the same products made in Mexico are half the price nob? Doesn't sound like fair trade to me.
For the same reason Mexico is able to produce the world's richest person.
