- Sunday, May 26 Rabbit Hill Cantina (facebook) The Rabbit Hill Cantina is located just south of Georgetown, TX, on FM1460. It is an outdoor music venue that features Cowboy and Country music acts about once a month during the warm months. The gate opens at 6:00 pm, music from 7:00 to 10:00 pm. An open mic period follows. Admission is by donation. Excellent barbeque is available by donation including pulled pork (my favorite), briskit, and sausage. Free popcorn.
This was Rabbit Hill's pre-Memorial Day celebration with Duke Davis and Buckshot. The weather was mild and cloudy. There was strong thunderstorm activity off to the west but it didn't affect us other than some light sprinkles late in the evening.
Duke Davis played from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. He plays cowboy songs, many of which he wrote. Duke actually IS a cowboy and he tells stories about the songs which makes it a genuine and interesting experience. Kurt Baumer, the fiddle player, was excellent.
After the Duke Davis show was an open mic session where Tom Penick played several songs:
- Under the Milky Way by Steven Kilbey and Karin Jansson
- Walking On Sunshine by Kimberley Rew
- Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen
- Holiday by The BeeGees
- Never Say Goodbye by Tom Penick
- Love Song by The Cure play
- Heatwave by Holland-Dozier (Martha Reed and the Vandellas)
- What's in a Name by Tom Penick about
