Me too, GIna. Just a casing found on the ground? No shots or anything. No problem, chisme. Agreed about false alarms.
P.S. We really like that place. Garden atmosphere nice folks, great food.

It's wonderful to know from the owner that all is well, that there never was a problem.

The report has been removed from the Imaginer Puerto FB site which was the original source of the story. Just because the police show up doesn't necessarily mean anything. There is another story on the same site about the State Police attempting to arrest two workers in the Punta for their appearance (bare chested on the street). In the end their boss had to rescue them by giving soft drinks to the cops.

When I first moved to Puerto I was warned that everyone goes crazy and people pick fights once the thermometer hits 30 degrees (centigrade).

Who remembers the Alarma newspaper?

No guesswork with those boys. They documented everything with 35mm cameras back in the day starting in 1963.

If it bleeds it leads. It was like a coroners report mixed with scantily clad women.

A million copies sold each week. It made vulgar porn Hustler magazine look like an Archie comic book in comparison.

They'd scan police radios then race the cops to the gunshot crime scenes or vehicle wrecks to photograph the deceased & injured and the mangled vehicles, often arriving first.

Besides being extremely macabre the publication brought eyes and voices to protest horrible incidences that may have been intentionally hidden otherwise.

I saw Alarma sold in every Mexican grocery store checkout in California and of course throughout Mexico.

Below is a Spanish language interview about Alarma.

I suggest that this thread be taken down as the original source no longer exists (fake news?) and there has been nothing to substantiate it.

Anyone know the origin of the phrase "periodismo amarillo"?

"The term was coined in the mid-1890s to characterize the sensational journalism in the circulation war between Joseph Pulitzer's New York World and William Randolph Hearst's New York Journal. The battle peaked from 1895 to about 1898, and historical usage often refers specifically to this period. Both papers were accused by critics of sensationalizing the news in order to drive up circulation, although the newspapers did serious reporting as well. An English magazine in 1898 noted, "All American journalism is not 'yellow', though all strictly 'up-to-date' yellow journalism is American!"[7]
The term was coined by Erwin Wardman, the editor of the New York Press. Wardman was the first to publish the term but there is evidence that expressions such as "yellow journalism" and "school of yellow kid journalism" were already used by newsmen of that time. Wardman never defined the term exactly. Possibly it was a mutation from earlier slander where Wardman twisted "new journalism" into "nude journalism".[4]: 32–33  Wardman had also used the expression "yellow kid journalism"[4]: 32–33  referring to the then-popular comic strip which was published by both Pulitzer and Hearst during a circulation war.[8] In 1898 the paper simply elaborated: "We called them Yellow because they are Yellow."[4]: 32–33 "
