Today we drove up into the cloud forest above Minatitlan. We did not measure, but the road is supposed to go up to about nine thousand feet above sea level. Near the top this little guy was anxious to show off for my camera, perching close then spreading his wing and tail feathers in display. Definitely worth the drive! On my computer screen the image is a little larger than life size. Howard Platt, Manzanillo hplattbc@gmail.com
Does this mean you finally got your car fixed? Saludos, [www.AdmireMexicoTours.com] AdmireMexicoTours@hotmail.com THE LOCAL EXPERTS Follow us on Facebook: Admire Mexico Tours DMC Follow our blog: [AdmireMexicoTours.blogspot.com]
Sorry -my post went wrong again because I used an accent mark. I took the shot earlier this year (when I still had a car). We drove from Minatitlan to Colima and took a turn off to the left (north east) up into the biosphere. It was a bit more than 15km steadily climbing up into the mountains. I do not know the name of the little village up there. Howard Platt, Manzanillo hplattbc@gmail.com
Vermilion Flycatcher I got this little fellow close to the volcano. Saludos from Comala! [www.AdmireMexicoTours.com] AdmireMexicoTours@hotmail.com THE LOCAL EXPERTS Follow us on Facebook: Admire Mexico Tours DMC Follow our blog: [AdmireMexicoTours.blogspot.com]
Jupiter: Nice shot. The drive up to Yerbabuena below the volcano will almost always (in my experience) have vermillion flycatchers. I have been up there many times and, if you go slowly and keep you eyes open, you will see them. You can pretty much promise bird-watchers that they will be there. Also, they are usually fairly close to the road! On the other hand you are going to have to work quite hard to see the slate-throated redstart. They are restricted to the higher altitudes (over 1,000 metres) and tend to hide in moist forested areas. Let me know if you see any close to Comala.
