Puebla to Puerto Escondido October 2014

Weather and Flight Plan

The sky was clear and the weather was mild. I filed a VFR plan to Puerto Escondido at 11,500' for one hour and 50 minutes.

The Flight

Takeoff: 11:00 am   Landing: 1:03 pm   Duration: 2 hours 3 minutes

While back taxiing for takeoff we witnessed an eruption on Popocatepetl and report to Tower.

The elevation at Puebla is 7361. I found that this altitude requires me to use the gear override in order to retract the gear.

To avoid restricted area MR-102, I flew an initial heading 190° to user waypoint MR102 18°21.6' -98°34.2'. For future flights I have created another waypoint MXMTN 17°12' -97°58.8' to proceed to next to avoid high terrain.

The flight took a little longer than anticipated. I had planned to follow the Río Verde to the coast but turned off early on the wrong river valley and added some distance to the trip.

At Puerto Escondido

Puerto Escondido has 8 tie-down spaces, each with only 2 tie points. We took care of closing the flight plan. I attempted to buy fuel but it was Sunday and was not possible. We called our friends to come pick us up.
