Klasp you are welcome. Anybody listening to these podcasts, just the three (including this one below), will know more than 95% of the rest of the population about what happened and why. You will understand more than most of the politicians. You will understand why the bank bailouts were a good thing (except for the way they did it*). You will know the regulations are often good** in spite of whatby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
I love this stuff. Here is another "This American Life" (Player) (Here is the Webpage with discription of the podcast) that describes what happened and what is happening with the Euro and how it came to be and what is going on in Greece. I like it so much because it does not come from a right or left angle and it explains things in a way that is very understandable. I don't have toby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
The Federal government was not really controlled by the Democrats in 1998. Even though Clinton was President, the House of Representatives was controlled by the Republicans and the Senate was controlled by the Republicans. Clinton signed the legislation (Repeal of The Glass-Steagall Act if that is what KR is talking about.) but if Clinton would have vetoed it it would have been overridden becauseby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
Republicans started out thinking that they were going to have a cakewalk into the White House. They were practically measuring for drapes (As the opposition likes to say.). Now with their clown car of candidates they are down to Rush Limbaugh with this ridiculous attack on all of us godless, evil liberals out there who just want to have "mindless sex" with all day with no consequences.by • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
How do these Republicans think they can get elected? Romeny shits all over the people of Michigan (Let Detroit Go Bankrupt), one of his four or five home states, as if he is owed the crown simply because he exists. Sontorum and his money honey thinks they they can shit all over 98% of women and the Republican men in congress think they can tell women all about contraception without one woman therby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
Today's installment (because I am bored, heh)... The U.S. government owes the money to people who loan it to the government. Not just China. Not only China. People and institutions who are owed much more than what is owed China. If you have evidence that pension funds and mutual funds and Tom and Mary Q. Public who buy Treasury Bonds and corporations who are sitting on their cash that isby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
KR you are making statistics say what you want them to say bro.................. You are talking about % of FOREIGN owned debt which is quite a bit DIFFERENT than TOTAL debt (paper?)......... that you implied earlier. China holds 8% more or less of total debt. Keep Googling bro and I am done trying to decipher your word salad and chasing you around trying to correct your misstatements and hypeby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
"Selling out all of America's Industry is criminal at least." True but America's industry is selling out America's industry by moving industry to China and other third world countries for bigger profit because of lower wages. NAFTA did not help either or any of the other Free Trade Agreements but destroying companies or moving jobs off shore for profit is to blame. Is thby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
KR, did mention Greece after mentioning the EU but what I said can be applied to the other PIIGS (Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece, Spain) as well. The bigger point is that the U.S. is hugely different than the EU. I gave reasons and examples. Normally it is certainly not good to have huge deficits and debt. We are not in a normal space right now and history has shown that we can get out of tby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
Government can create jobs or jump start job creation would be more accurate. An easy example is the highway building under Eisenhower. The New Deal created millions(?) of jobs. Infrastructure building. The point is that we are in crisis and the economy needs help to get going and the government has a responsibility to get things going. Should the government be the souse of jobs just for the sakeby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
Comparing the U.S. economy to the Greek economy it is a mistake. The U.S. economy is not Greece. Paul Krugman explains it concisely and precisely. (Krugman explains it more in his blog. It is worth a read to understand the reality as opposed to the lies that politicians would have us believe.) “Fiscal austerity in the face of a depressed economy does little to improve your long-run debt positby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
I want to make it clear that I know there is a real problem with the debt and borrowing. My point is that now it is more important to work on unemployment. If unemployment comes down then the economy will grow. When the economy grows then the government will take in more money which will cut deficits. It is called “growing the economy”. What I meant to get across earlier in relation to the deby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
The polls only show how people are thinking about the candidates in the Republican primaries. They are not intended to show the state of the economy. The charts/graphs show what the economy has done and compare the economy to other times when the economy was in similar shape. I think it is helpful to see the comparison with a graphic.by • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
It is so frustrating when Republicans get all worked up over the debt. They have no credibility on the debt. All they ever do is double it when they are in office and leave it for the Democrats to clean up. When Clinton left office there was a surplus. More money coming in than going out. When Bush came in Bush said that he wanted to return the money to tax payers. He gave tax breaks to thby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
Delmar you are correct. My point would be that while it is true the the 1940s spending was for WWII it was spending nonetheless. The governmental should be spending heavily for workers and manufacturing for infrastructure and other things that the country needs. Alternative energy is another good place to spend because we are going to run out of oil sooner or later and the sooner we have an alterby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
It is very difficult to turn around a huge economy that was destroyed as bad as the U.S. economy was destroyed in 2008. It cannot be done in two years or three years. In fact to do it in 5 years or 8 years is incredibly difficult. Even 10 years. We have examples to tell us that. The Great Depression was not turned around until WWII. It was doing better in 1937 until Roosevelt was forced to cut spby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
Polls don't mean much right now but so that we have an idea where we stand right now here is the Pew Research poll released today. There is a lot more information at the link. One of the more interesting polls was about Romney's qualifications and honesty. Go check out the whole thing. it is really interesting.by • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
Nice point Delmar. It would logically seem that Reagan could not be nominated in this atmosphere. Just like Nixon he would be way to liberal for the Teabaggers and the CPAC crowd. Reagan more than doubled the national debt incurred during the whole history of the United States let alone the numerous tax hikes he called for.by • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum

Some News Leaves People Knowing Less According to the latest results from Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind Poll, some news sources make us less likely to know what’s going on in the world. In the most recent study, the poll asked New Jerseyans about current events at home and abroad, and from what sources – if any – they get their information. The conclusion: Sunday mby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum

Apology??? I didn't apologize. I didn't do anything wrong. As far as this topic being relevant to Puerto you are wrong. If there are a few people interested in Tea Party rallies in North Dakota does that mean it is relevant to Puerto? Just because some people are interested in it and live in Puerto does not mean it is relevant to Puerto. You could say that about almost any topic. Yoby • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum
Don't worry about Farkem. The topic was not relevant to Puerto and you are one of the first people if not the first person to point this out about other off topic subjects. It seemed odd that you would be so snarky. Not to worry though. We all sometimes click the send button too soon.by • por Puerto Bill - Off-Topic Forum

I could not agree more with Carol, her dog and Alan. The leaders of the right like to say that Obama and the left want the redistibution of wealth. While that may be true to a ceratin extent I think most would just like the distribution to be more better. Like it was fron 1950 - 1980...
