The article seems to attack the idea of "privatizing" lands. I just wonder if the current system is so great, why do so many young Indigenous Mexicans migrate to the U.S.?by por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
I think KR posts some pretty informative stuff. Isn't that what the forum is about?by por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
KR, A U.S. citizen pays taxes to the U.S. no matter where in the world he/she lives. You can deduct foreign taxes paid, and you might not owe the U.S. money, but you are supposed to file a return(unless you meet certain criteria). So, yes, we Americans do have an umbilical cord of sorts. PB, your fun fact of the day might be true, but it overlooks the fact that far more private sector jobsby por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
PB, I think there are big differences between the 30s-40s and now. Our deficit spending in ww2 was on building stuff for the war and paying for workers and soldiers. Much of the money went to our own factories and working citizens. Our debt now is interest rate debt on money going to entitlement programs. Economist still don't seem that good at predicting the future with their modelby por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
Obama is like Reagan. They both inherited a bad economy, kept taxes low, spent more than the budget, and targeted specific bad guys rather than start a war(Obama: Bin Laden, Reagan:Kadafy). They both are good speakers and charismatic. I think they have a lot in common.by por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
Statistics aside, my brother had a job when Bush was Pres. I know he voted for Obama; I suspect if he is not working come election time, he will vote for another guy. My dad voted for every president elected since 1980. He basically voted how he was doing, or how he felt the country was doing. So, the lefties will always vote one way, the righties will always vote the other, but the folks inby por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
Improvements from Obama: 1. He got Bin Laden 2. He is finally, maybe bringing home some troops 3. He wore dad jeans while throwing out a pitch at a game, thereby resurrecting a pair of my comfy jeans my wife heretofore didn't want me to wear. Hey, if the President can wear them, I can, too! 4. Sadly, far less than he promised, and after all this time, his supporters are still blaming Busby por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
hope they got game 6 of the WS here in SJdP. One of the best WS games i've seen.by por delmar - San José del Pacifico
Jeter just got 3000. Doesn't anyone on this San Jose del Pacifico form care?by por delmar - San José del Pacifico
Do they get the Yankee games in San Jose Del Pacifico? I have never been, but I like the name.by por delmar - San José del Pacifico
My understanding of the "straw man" is making up a hypothetical person that really doesn't exist. I am referring to people who do exist on this form. Also, again, I am not pro-Republican or right wing, whatever that means. That's why I specifically used the term "small government." I didn't say Democrats are the only ones who like big government. You rightby por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
Many ex-pats move to Mexico because the costs and TAXES are lower. The predominate voices on this form are Democrat, a party which historically and presently supports a bigger government with high taxes. I am not trying to support Republicans here; many of their faults have been outlined in previous posts by others. What I am CONFUSED(the title of the original post) about is why high-tax, bigby por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
True story: A 60 something Canadian dentist goes to the hospital in Canada with a very serious heart rhythm problem(arrythmia). He is put on medicine and scheduled for his AICD(internal defibriltor) placement in 2 months. He goes home and dies 2 weeks later from his abnormal heart rhythm. If he were in the U.S. he stays in the hospital and doesn't leave until he gets his AICD implanted.by por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
Regarding one of spiderman's original questions about why Obama wanted to pass health care reform, the answer is because this was his window of opportunity. He had support from the House and Senate for two years, and he realized he needed to do this while he was able. He is right on this point: our health care system is broken. Unfortunately, I don't think his healthcare reform addresby por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
The Democrats controlled Congress from 2007 on, so they better come up with something better. Krugman, Galbraith, George W., Obama, and my most intelligent relative(who happens to a Republican) all think the government needs to spend more money. Yes, we usually run with a deficit, but the question is how big is the deficit relative to the whole economy. Many people have some debt like a mortby por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
"It is too difficult and expensive to become a doctor. For 15 years of higher education the return is not worth it.' I second this. The cost of my health insurance has more than doubled in the last 12 years, but my income has stayed the same or declined a little. If private university and medical school tuition costs 50k per year, 8 years of schooling is 400k. You train for anotheby por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
PB, Thanks for your thorough post. A couple random thoughts I had: Alan Greenspan, the Maestro. Remember? Everyone hung on each obfuscating word he uttered. He won't be so revered historically. Bush 2: not a great President, but not as bad as Obama(and you, even) make him out to be. Paul Krugman is a smart guy and I wouldn't want to argue economics with him. That said, almost everything he writes seems to flow from a liberal bias. Even smart guys, when biased, can be wrong. Many economists disagree with him. He has a Nobel prize in economics, so I am not going to debate him. When does Obama start taking responsibility for the economy, etc? He has been in officeby por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
The site has already become more focused, as is evidenced by this thread which was moved. There use to be all kinds of bantering back and forth, often with no relation to PE or Mexico. The concern I have is that if the site is only an information post, without controversy, it won't generate as much traffic. Then people who have real questions might not get a good sample of responses if tby por delmar - Off-Topic Forum
