I don't know about Colima but there is a big one in Villa de Alvarez on Sunday. To get there (from Comala) continue on past the Soriana a few blocks and you will see it on the right.by iamx - Colima - Comala
Well, I would have lost that bet. I will be down that way in a day or two and will check it out. Great photo Oldgringo!by iamx - Colima - Comala
We own a house just outside of Nogueras which is about a mile from Comala which is about 3-4 miles from Colima. We were able to buy it outright since it was 54 km from the coast. I don’t know how they figured it but it was done by a Notario which is essential to use when buying a property here. Comala might be a good option to consider since it has small town ambience and a large and prosby iamx - Colima - Comala
Clouds often form at the top especially in the afternoon due to, I assume, the change in temp as you go up. You can see it from Barra??by iamx - Colima - Comala
It has been dormant for months - barely a puff of steam.by iamx - Colima - Comala
We stayed at the Hotel Rio in Old Town of Puerto Vallarta and then got the Primera Plus bus to Manzanillo although it also stops in Barra and Melaque. A pick up point is at a station about five blocks from the hotel and the staff (English speaking) can tell you how to get there or you can take a taxi. We got the tics the day before. The busses are wonderfulby iamx - Colima - Comala
This spring the walkway was open and had been extended.by iamx - La Manzanilla - Tenacatita - Boca de Iguanas
There are no real estate offices in Comala that I know of and I don't recall seeing one in Colima. When we got our place here it was after driving all over town, getting to know people here, and taking our time. You didn't say if you were looking for a house or just land. Re the latter, there are lots available everywhere.by iamx - Colima - Comala
Several years ago we were in La Man and there was a beautiful display of bioluminescence in the surf. We ask a “local” about it and she said it was fairly common but in many subsequent visits we have not seen it again. Can anyone tell me if it is “fairly common” and if so, are there is some way to anticipate it? I have seen it many times in the Gulf of Mexico but this was my wife’s first timeby iamx - La Manzanilla - Tenacatita - Boca de Iguanas
I don't know about a breeder but have you looked at any of the free ad sites? Segundamano had a GS in Colima that was 6 months old.by iamx - Colima - Comala
You might try searching the forums. I think this has been discussed recently.by iamx - La Manzanilla - Tenacatita - Boca de Iguanas
I would like to add that this was organized almost entirely by several young Mexican birders who put a lot of effort into setting it up. Many Mexico counts are run by Nortes but this shows that we have very knowledgeable and dedicated people right here. I also know that with experience this count can expect many more than 103 species. Thanks also to Comala Host for making myself and others awaby iamx - Colima - Comala
Can you provide some additional information here? --Where is the count circle? --Are there going to be field parties or just one group? --Is this count registered with National Audubon? Thanksby iamx - Colima - Comala
The Secretary of Tourism of Colima has a series of excellent videos of places to visit in Colima, including Rios de Colima y Agua Fria, Coquimatlan, Villa de Alvarez, etc. Check out Rios de Colima y Agua Fria at Colima al Natural or Google Colima al Natural for more of them.by iamx - Colima - Comala
The beautiful Hostal Casa Blanca in the historic centro of Comala is now a proud sponsor of Tomzap and now accepts all major credit cards. And, if you haven't already, check out information on everything to do and see around Comala on their new website at Comala Casa Blancaby iamx - Colima - Comala
They are both current for the time being but the old one - casablancacomala - had some problems so our friends had a new one developed.by iamx - Colima - Comala
Our friends at the beautiful Hostal Casa Blanca in Comala have new website in both English and Spanish. In addition to info about the hostal, it features the latest on everything to do and see in and around Comala, Mexico’s 2012 Pueblo Mágico numero uno! Check it out at comalacasablanca.com.by iamx - Colima - Comala
We were there a few months ago and it was open and very good. Note that the little map on Trip Advisor is or was incorrect. It's a couple of blocks off the street shown so use a different map. The restaurant itself is not conspicuous from the street - it's nestled back kin the corner and hard to see.by iamx - Colima - Comala
If you're looking for a great change of pace amid beautiful scenery, check out Comala's Feria del Ponche, Pan y Café which just got under way last night. The square has dozens of stands selling local products and features Comala's famous pan dulce, ponche, and locally grown coffee. This year all vendors are required to offer only local and regional handicrafts so it is a great oppby iamx - Colima - Comala
If you're on foot, the best bet is the road that goes past the crocodile sanctuary. I know you've not looking for water birds but there's usually a Boat-billed Heron roosting in the trees over the chain link fence. Go on down the road - it follows the mangroves for a while and comes to more open land. Watch for Citroline Trogon, San Blas Jay, Orange-breasted Bunting, orioles, anby iamx - La Manzanilla - Tenacatita - Boca de Iguanas
It took me a bit but here it is: I'm not on FB so I don't know if non-FB can use it, and I didn't try. We did go the huge horse parade yesterday, but there are more to come.by iamx - Colima - Comala
I can get little bundles of sage in the produce dept. at Soriana here in Colima. The sausage I use for spaghetti is Johnsonville estilo Italiano. It is made in the U.S. and is simply uncooked, lightly seasoned sausage packed like brats. Take them apart. This is about the only reason we go to Walmart here.by iamx - Colima - Comala
I forgot to mention - the volcano has been pretty quiet the past few days. There are usually some clouds that form over it in the late morning and early afternoon - often the only clouds in the sky.by iamx - Colima - Comala
Two good paces to see it: --Just drive through Comala and up the road towards La Maria. --Go to Nogueras from Comala (turn right at the Pemex when coming into town). When you come to Nogueras, the road will fork - there's a fountain or something there. Go left and in a short ways there's another road going left down a steep hill. Take it. This is a rock and cobblestone road and theby iamx - Colima - Comala
We have a volcano view here but it's been obscured with cloud cover for most of the last few weeks and totally over the past few days. It was clear this morning but there was no activity.by iamx - Colima - Comala
According to their website - Google Feria Colima - it goes to Nov 17. I didn't check the other info and haven't gone this year.by iamx - Colima - Comala
I should have posted this about 24 hours ago. The Nogueras tianguis (outdoor market) is held every fourth Saturday of the month, usually. It offers various food, produce, local crafts, artisans, etc. and is worth a visit, as is Nogueras itself. Put it on your calendar for next month. I considered putting this on the new "What to do in Colima" site (see earlier post) but couldn'by iamx - Colima - Comala
We'll be back to Comala in three weeks or so and I will see if the zip line thing is still operational. You may need to send me a reminder.by iamx - Colima - Comala
This a wonderful and long-overdue idea. So many times we have gone into Comala and discovered an event or festival that we hadn't known about or, worse yet, was already over. We hope Comala Host will get some support and input on this!by iamx - Colima - Comala
Yes - log on. After you log on, go back to the list of forums for Manz. and Barra should be on the list. It worked for me. There is also some info on the announcements or whatever forum.by iamx - Colima - Comala
