Cybersquatting
August 05, 2011 08:21PM
Is this or is this not a blatant example of cybersquatting?

http://www.costalegre.ca/Domain_Names.htm

Isn't this against the law in Mexico as it is in the U.S?

Do any of the local businesses affected by this have any legal recourse?

Since this person does so much business here in Mexico, I assume that he has a business license here in Cihuatlรกn and pays federal taxes as do most of the local businesses he is trying to screw over.

Looks like whatever you get from him, you only get it for a year

If they realy need those names just add a .NET, .ORG or one of many

I looked at the first one on the list, and it is not owned. The second:

Nancy, it appears that the man then is trying to sell domains that aren't his and squatting on many others. I checked others and they are in that man's name or some of them are redirects to the business he is promoting here in Mexico. It all seems very underhanded.

Why was it necessary to move this thread to this area when it concerns living and working here in this part of Mexico?

He owns them (or not) and will rent them to you for $200 a year. He will remain the registrar. For $400 a year he will create a web page for you on your rented domain. Don't think he mentions selling them outright
