Mexican Social Insurance Number

Having recently acquired my "Residente Temporal", I pursued enquiries re applying for Mexican Medical coverage (INMSS) as a result I was advised that I was required to have a Mexican Social Insurance Number before I could make application.
Anybody out there have any information in regards to where to apply,what documents are required,fees charged etc for acquiring a Mexican Social Insurance Number????

If you have a 'Residente Temporal' visa your CURP may often be shown on the front of the visa card you were issued by the immigration office.
