Sewage in La Manzanilla

We live in Ajijc now but need to move to a lower altitude and have focused in on La Manzanilla: seems like a good fit and I'm enjoying the beach cam daily. When I've told others about our half-made plan to move there, suddenly the "sewage problem" comes up to discourage us.

I'd appreciate some "boots on the ground" information on how bad it is currently.

How is the fund raising effort going?
