The Location:
Casa Flor de Amaya is located in Sector U2, not in the tourist area but in a residential area where the locals live. Here you can experience the local food, customs, and ambiance of the local Huatulco culture, not just tourists.Right in front of the house is the canal, built more than 10 years ago. In the neighborhood you can view the making and tasting of homemade tortillas. Just around the corner is a taqueria, where tortillas are made by machine to supply the local area. Across the canal is a hill where hikers can make a day trip to the top to see a view of the ocean. Nearby there are 2 carpinteros, woodworking shops where beautiful furniture is made.
Also in the neighborhood you can find a variety of local foods such as tlayudas, huaraches, tacos, quesadillas, fresh fried or steamed fish, seafood soups, all made fresh on site. A bakery provides fresh bread daily. There a many small mom & pop stores where you can shop. And the prices for these things are the low local prices, not tourist prices.
Casa Flor de Amaya is a no frills, clean, spacious, newly remodeled place. There is a wonderous view of the Sierra Madres from the rooftop. Guests have use of the kitchen with electric stove, microwave, toaster/oven, refrigerator, dishes, and utensils. Access to the rest of the Huatulco resort area is only a $3 peso taxi ride from the corner.6 of the rooms have 2 double beds and 3 of the rooms have 2 twin beds. Two of the bedrooms are upstairs where they share 2 large upstairs bathrooms. The 2 upstairs bedrooms share a small terrace. One bedroom downstairs has a private bath.
