Lesser Nighthawk

The lesser nighthawk winters in southern Mexico. They feed on flying insects, catching them on the wing. They usually nest on bare ground. The brown color and markings allow them to blend into their surrounds. We saw this one at Laguna Manialtepec near Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca.
